Most of you know that I frequently use the spiral shape in my jewelry, often as a clasp but also as earrings. Here, then, is a little more information about the spiral and its meaning across cultures.
The spiral shape is mesmerizing in its fluid curling and coiling. Beautiful examples of spirals can be found in plant and animal life -- in the twisting of vines and in the wondrous structure of a nautilus shell. Showing up in Celtic symbols, Hindi spiritual texts, Japanese landscape design, Arabic architecture, and even primitive rock carvings, the spiral is found in the art of almost all cultures. And why wouldn’t it? The Milky Way itself, which we all call home, is a spiral galaxy. And the DNA serving as the blueprint for our bodies is a beautifully intricate double spiraled helix. It is at our very core.
The spiral shape symbolizes movement, growth, cycles, and eternity.
The spiral has a prominent place in almost every collection at Laura Teague Jewelry. It takes center stage in sterling silver spiral earrings and rings, and plays a practical role as part of the clasp in many bracelets and necklaces, especially those in the Luxury and Signature Chain Mail Collections.
So much more than a functional component, these signature spiral clasps bring a unique artistic touch to each and every piece of jewelry. The perpetual winding of the spiral is a reminder of our infinite potential and that things always come back to a center point. Wearing them can put you in closer touch with the ever-evolving journey that is life.
Completely over the moon excited that I won the first place award in jewelry at the Gumtree Art Festival in Tupelo, Mississippi this spring - especially so since it was the very first award I have ever won! The festival is so much fun and then to win an award on top of it all was spectacular. Hmmmm - wondering if I can now call myself an "award winning jewelry artist"....? LOL!
