(It's a brand new year - it seems I had just gotten used to saying and writing 2015 when 2016 open it's doors to us. I new year always brings a great opportunity to celebrate the old and welcome whatever is new in our lives. 2015 was a great year for me personally and for my business. I so appreciate everyone who is on this journey with me and especially those who support my business by thinking of me when they have a gift to buy or need something special for themselves - you know who you are! THANK YOU!! This new year, unlike new years in the past, I have so many new jewelry collections in my head that it's hard to sort out what to work on first. I have finally narrowed it down to a collection coming out this March, called "Little Luxuries", which should give you a very hint to what that collection is all about! I am well into production on this collection and am very excited about how it is coming together. In the fall I will have a collection out that will be perfect for cooler weather and gift buying. The collection is, as yet, unnamed but I can tell you that it will be a wonderful departure from what Laura Teague Jewelry is known for while, at the same time, maintaining the same contemporary styling with ancient influences and flawless execution. This collection is still in the development stage - lots more info to come and photos once I go into production. Finally, in the spring 2017, another new collection is already on the books - very early in development of this collection but it is already beginning to take shape. This, too, may be somewhat of a departure from what you are used to seeing from my studio but I think you will love it. Hint: the "theme" of the collection is "living a minimalist life". Along with all that, both Mardi Gras and Valentine's Day are right around the corner! A perfect beginning to a new year! (Did you see those little sterling silver crown earrings with the freshwater pearl? Aren't those the cutest Mardi Gras earrings ever?) This year will be what you make it so make it a good one! Happy New Year! The cross is one of the most ancient of human symbols and is the universal symbol of faith of the Christian religion. The cross is related both to the crucifix and to the more general family of cross symbols. The ancient Greek goddess Diana was often pictured in art with a cross over her head and Bacchus, the Greek god of wine, was depicted wearing a headdress adorned with crosses. Different types of crosses were used in Mexico centuries before the Spaniards arrived. The Egyptians used cross symbols in abundance, as did the Hindus. Use of the cross as a symbol of faith was seen as early as the 3rd century when it became hugely popular in Christian art. Aside from its religious symbolism, the cross is also sometimes used to indicate the division of the world into four elements (earth, water, air and fire), into four cardinal points (north, south, east and west), or as the union of the divine (the vertical line) and the world (the horizontal line). Whatever you understand the cross to represent for you, you are sure to appreciate the artistry of the sterling silver crosses shown as part of the Cherish Collection: the dramatic sterling silver cross earrings, the simplicity of the petite hammered silver cross necklace or the swirling drama of the Byzantine cross necklace. In the first post in the series, we talked about categorizing all that jewelry that you have into 4 groups (basically, "keepers" and "perhaps not keepers"); in the second post, we talked about possibilities as you think about those "perhaps not keepers" and ways to move them on in meaningful ways. In this post, we'll look more closely at the "keeper" jewelry and see how those pieces can fit in to your overall jewelry wardrobe - those "must haves" that everyone needs. Group 1 are the pieces you absolutely love for whatever reason - maybe just because someone dear to you gave it to you. (My mom's wedding rings fall into this category for me.) These do not have to be expensive pieces and maybe you don't wear them all the time or even often. Some of these pieces may well fit into your ideal jewelry wardrobe. Even if they don't, that's no reason to give these pieces away - you do love them, after all, right? That's reason enough to keep them for now. Group 2 are the pieces that you do wear over and over, day after day. Chances are, many of these pieces will fit into your jewelry wardrobe. Now, let's look at some "guiding concepts" as you develop a jewelry wardrobe: 1. your jewelry should be things that YOU love - not what someone else loves or thinks you should love 2. price doesn't matter - if you love it & wear it often, go for it. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's right for you 3. you might think about having a "signature" piece of jewelry, something that you wear almost everyday 4. as your tastes change (and they do), don't be afraid to change your jewelry over the years; just because you loved and wore those little pearl earrings when you were 20 years old doesn't mean you still have to wear them daily! 5. jewelry you are going to wear frequently should be something you LOVE to wear - that means it's comfortable and that you love the look of it. Do not compromise on this - if it is uncomfortable or doesn't look like "you", you won't wear it. I just added these to my website and i just love them - the perfect little gift for yourself or someone else AND the sky's the limit when it comes to word on the disks! I cut the disks myself and hand stamp them - pretty organic and maybe a little funky looking? They can also be earrings - matching or not, which can be a lot of fun. I have plans to make bracelets as well - too many ideas, not enough time. Want to see more? Go HERE:) |
