Just got back last night from Houston, Texas, which is about 5 hours from my home in Baton Rouge. It was my first time showing my jewelry at this festival which was pretty exciting for me. I have been doing shows in Louisiana and Mississippi for several years but really wanted to reach out to other states to expand my customer base. I was pleasantly surprised to be accepted into this festival after hearing about it for awhile. I was not sure how my handmade jewelry would be received but I should not have worried. In spite of dreadful heat and humidity (I did say Houston, right??), the shoppers were out in force. Did I mention that my booth was under an interstate?? Yes, indeed. When I first realized that I would be under the interstate, I was a bit bothered, worried about traffic noise, for one. Would I even be able to talk to my customers over the noise of the road above me?? In fact, this was really not a problem at all. The road noise was just sort of a dull roar - no problem at all speaking to people who were in my tent. As as added bonus, I had no problem with the rains came - didn't even know it was raining until I saw people with umbrellas! In addition, when the sun came out I was sheltered from that as well, which was a definite plus. I made some good sales and met some wonderful people who appreciated my handmade jewelry and made me feel welcome in their city - I even connected with an old friend or two who I didn't know lived in Texas! I plan to apply again to this show in 2015 and hope to be invited back. Thank you, Houston!
