We were in Monterey, California last summer and visited the fabulous aquarium there. I was struck by the orange jellyfish display - you can see the photo above, left. The brilliant blue background and the brightly colored jellyfish was such eye candy for me! Anyway, I could not get the image out of my mind - I keep poring over the photos for weeks. I knew I had to do something with the image but it was awhile before I figured what it was that I needed to do. The earrings in the center above are the final result of my obsession with the image of those jellyfish in the Monterey aquarium. They are larger and more dramatic than many of the earrings I make but they reflect the depth of my reaction to the original image. Who would have thought it? Jellyfish to sterling silver handmade earrings! I will take inspiration wherever I find it...or where ever it finds me!
The image on the right is a beautiful tank "in the round" of sardines! This was magical too - I haven't quite settled on the silver jewelry interpretation of this but I will get there, sooner or later! |
