Ever heard of green cotton? I hadn't either, until recently. It's a natural color but fell out of favor when white cotton became easy to grow. White cotton can be dyed all sorts of bright colors so people preferred to use that instead of the colored yarn. (Turns out, cotton comes in all sorts of muted colors - green and brown are the two I have recently become familiar with.) The photo below shows a dishcloth I knitted using brown cotton along with dyed white cotton. 

Hobbii Yarn - nice price, pretty yarn but, alas, a little thin and splitty. But pretty!

I have used it double with a solid color for thicker socks and that worked out well.

​We are leaving soon on a cross country car trip....and....I am a knitter. An obsessed knitter.

What to take with me?

How many WIPS?
How much extra yarn and what type?
And what if I don't have the needles I need for the projects I have either with me or FP (future projects). 
And reference books? Should I take any of those? None of those? 

Car travel is tricky because, at least theoretically, there is "plenty of room". 

WIPS are in ziplocks both to save room and so I can see what I have. Not cute but functional.

Are there yarn shops where I'm going?

Of course there are!

Not the point.
