The History of the Cross as a Symbol

Although the cross was used as a symbol long before the Christian era, it is the primary symbol of the Christian religion and is a symbol both of Christ himself and of the faith of Christians.

In ceremonial usage, making the sign of the cross may be an act of profession of faith, a prayer, or a dedication.

Although there are several different forms of the cross, tradition favors the Latin Cross (with one short and one longer arm set a right angles to each other) as that on which Christ died. You can see some of my designs reflecting the cross in the Cherish Collection.

Before the time of the emperor Constantine in the 4th century, Christians were hesitant to display the cross because it could expose them to danger.

After Constantine converted to Christianity he promoted the cross, which became immensely popular in Christian art and funerary monuments from c. 350.

Earrings for Spring!

Spring is just around the corner and we all need a little lift after the winter...although I will say that, here in south Louisiana, we had very little winter this year. (Well, there were those 3 days when the temperatures went down into the low 20s, but that's really it for winter this year.)

So, look above and you will see some wonderful new designs featuring Pantone's new "greenery" spring color and the soft glow of genuine rose quartz gemstones. Nothing says spring like "spring green" and soft pink!

Epic Fail or Splendid Success?

Number 6 on the list of "hopes" for the New Year

Have you ever challenged yourself to do something that you haven't done in a LONG time? Well, I'll bet you have AND I would love to hear about it in the comments below! Here is what I did....

What I decided to try was riding a bicycle again after many MANY years of not even owning a bike, much less riding one. First I bought an inexpensive (but flashy looking) bike, seen here on the left. Isn't it pretty?? Things did not go well...in fact, that bike threw me in a ditch one of the first days I rode it.

Then, by happenstance, I came across a wonderful RED bicycle that my friend, Louise Coulson, was selling so I bought it & brought it home all the way from north Mississippi. (If you don't know Louise, you can check out her wonderful handmade serving pieces here: www.kingfisherdesignsmetals.com).

Here it is, my new red bike - it even has a horn, a bell AND a big basket for the front! It is so big, so comfy, so pretty....totally worth what I paid for it; I love it.
