This book is wonderful. Lots of nice, very simple designs - nothing complicated. Even I could knit most, if not all, of the sweaters in this book. This sweater on the cover is my fave and I really want to knit it. The only probem is the price of the yarn it would take. Maybe it could be knit in a nice cotton yarn? Will do some research!
This book!! All sorts of little interesting tips & tricks from real knitters & crocheters!! Organized by topic - everthing from multicolor knitting to managing your knitting to finishing & caring for your projects. Also included are sections about machine knitting as well as crochet. Lots of useful little tidbits AND I got an idea for a new type of sterling silver stitch marker for knitting & marking rows! Brilliant! Stay tuned for that! :)
Wow!! What a book - Kate Atherly is a force. I mean, if it's not in this book, you don't need to the information. Trust me on that.
From the proper fit of a sock to a thesis on yarn, needles & gauge to stitch patterns and adjustments for "non-average" feel (how kind of her to say "non-average"), this book has it ALL. I have been knitting socks for awhile and have knit LOTS of socks, mostly successfully. While some of the "sock maths" kind of made my eyes glaze over (turns out I need my info in just tiny little bites), this book is amazing. In fact, a little takeaway for me is that I am changing the toe I will be using on socks. (Let's hear it for the "half & half" toe & why am I just now hearing about this toe??) Don't you just love Alex Cross and his sweet little family? I do. Some of these novels are a little too graphic for me but, overall, I love reading about these characters. AND I just realized there are over 20 books in the series. Yikes. I'll be reading these for awhile......
That little silver band ring is available in my online store - click here to take a look and treat yourself to a little silver stacking ring! I love to read and I am always looking for something good. Ideally, I like to find a good series so that I am "in books" for a couple of months but those are so hard to find. The last series I read that I really enjoyed was the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.
Those books were everything I am looking for in a book - light-hearted, funny, interesting characters! Maybe it's just me (and I willing to bare my soul a little bit here) but I don't really want to think too hard when I read a novel. I just want to be entertained. You, too? Good! We could be best friends! :) That silver bracelet is available on my website - click here to get a closer look & shop! I've been mostly home for roughly a week now and, in addition to making new jewelry, I have a new found love for knitting socks! I have always wanted to learn to knit socks, but honestly, I never thought I would be able to do it. It just always seemed so complicated!
Thanks to a good friend who is a master sock knitter and the help of this most excellent book on knitting socks by Ann Budd, I have finally knit two pairs of socks and have started on the third. Yes, I have had to restart multiple times and, yes, they are far from perfect but I love and wear them so I consider that a huge win! That bracelet is available in my online store - click here to shop the silver bracelets! These wonderful vintage books were gifted to me by a friend who was helping a friend of hers downsize last week. It's rare to get nice old books like this - can't wait to dive in & see what info these books have for me!
That silver chain bracelet is available in my online store - click here to check it out! I have recently rediscovered Janet Evanovich and her girl hero, Stepanie Plum! I think I tried to read these books a few years ago but I must have not been in the mood. Now, I love these books; in fact, I have read almost all of them in the past few weeks. The only ones I have not read are on my "holds" list in my Libby app! Obsessed much - yes, I think so!
That silver thumb ring (or any finger ring) is available in my online shop - click here to take a closer look & shop! This book was recommended to me by Megan Auman (www.meganauman.com) and, since I already had Brene Brown's other book (which I can't remember the name of) on my "must read" list, I decided to go ahead & ask Mr. Amazon to send me both of them ASAP.
I started reading this last night and here's what I can tell you. I am 15 pages in and this book is going to change my life. I am almost in tears as I type that. She talks about courage (the everyday type, not the "i'm a hero" type), connection and compassion in ways that are real and "actionable", if that makes sense. It's almost reading like a how-to book of how to be a better person. In fact, it IS a how-to book. Ok, i'm going to go read now. :) Those stacking rings? They are in my online store - click here to shop them now! Don't you love it when you get a good book that you just can't put down because you just have to know what happens next? Me, too! I have been on a serious Lee Child/Jack Reacher kick for the past month. I mean, OBSESSED.
Jack Reacher is a knight in shinig armor. Bigger than life, literally. He always wins the fight and he always gets the girl. (Total aside, have you noticed that the girls/women always seem to look alike? Reacher/Child definitely seem to have a "type"!) That bracele is a one off that I made form my mom years ago - similar designs in my online store -click here to see! Love the jewelry? Click the button to join our email list so you never miss new designs! We are leaving soon on a driving trip to California to visit our oldest son and his wife! I am looking forward to this trip for so many reasons - family visit, driving trip, enjoy the beautiful southwest and western US, mostly computer-free, AND....one of my very favorite things to do: we love to go to out of the way places and look for beautiful and unusual rocks!
So I am sitting here with my coffee and one of my favorite rockhounding guide books, planning the drive! Oh, the rocks we'll see! That silver bracelet is BRAND NEW on the website - it's part of my Jacks Collection, inspired by the game of jacks most of us played as kids. This collection is so much fun to wear and it reminds you of those childhood days everytime you wear it! Click here to see the new silver bracelet and here to see the entire collection of jacks jewelry. I'm adding new pieces to this collection often, so sign up for my email list if you want to be the first to see the new designs as soon as they hit the website! Oh, I really do love Amos Decker, the hero in a series of mysteries by David Baldacci. In this book, Amos, the detective with the amazing and unrelenting memory, is back in his hometown to right a wrong he may have committed in his very first murder investigation. As usual, this is a book I couldn't put down!
If you have other books to recommend, I would love to know! Always looking for a good read as long as it's not TOO bloody...also torture - I don't do well with reading about torture. So, thanks in advance! The silver bracelet is one of my favs & is available in my online store! Go here to see details & shop! This book, Flat Broke with Two Goats, is an entertaining book - I'm always looking for something new to read and this one came up on the books on the "Big Library" list of books. If you don't know about "Big Library" (and you like to read), check it out - it's a nice concept and the books listed for the program as pretty good, for the most part.
This book starts out kind of sad, in an unfortunate sort of way. Major financial problems are always pretty sad. Anyway, things improve from there for this family and things are poignant and funny and sometimes sad again. Bonus? It's a true story, which I didn't realized until I Googled it after I finished reading it. This silver bracelet is one of my very favorites and I wear it all the time. The fact that is was inspired by the game of "jacks" is an added plus. It just makes me happy every time I look at it! You can click here if you want to shop this bracelet on my online store!
