So excited to be interviewed this week by Times Picayune NOLA.com - article published today! Click HERE for the link to the article.
Just so you know - the La Louisiane collection is composed of jewelry that is often stamped with local "sayings" or words that are often French in origin or relate specifically to south Louisiana, my home. I'll be doing a series of posts re: what these words mean with a picture of the jewelry accompanied by a picture of the "real" object when applicable! So here is the first - WHAT is "boo-dan"???
So glad you asked! "Boudin" is a spicy sausage used in Louisiana cooking that is created from a blend of beef, rice, and/or pork (although other meats are often added to create variations: gator, shrimp, crawfish, etc.). Yummy! Thought you couldn't speak French?? think again - just say "boo-dan"! These are part of my new collection, "La Louisiane" - you can find the necklaces by clicking HERE. These are great fun to make & I'm happy to be taking these to their temporary home at the Louisiana State University Museum Store today!
This is a little hard to photograph but this shows the beginning of the "squiggle" which you can see more easily int he next two photos. I pushed the wire back and forth on the pliers to form the squiggle -rinse, wash, repeat on the other end of the wire! oh, what fun! next step will show it looking more like a ring!! www.facebook.com/laurateaguejewlery
Here are the next couple of steps - carefully winding the ring around the pliers to get a little "loop' on each end of the wire. This gives the ring a smooth start for the following steps. www.facebook.com/laurateaguejewelry First couple of steps in making a simple, sterling silver ring. First is cutting the appropriate length of wire,(approximately 7 inches should do it) then filing both ends with a jeweler's file - rough edges be gone! More steps to follow - stay-tuned! www.laurateague.com New sterling silver and copper rings went to the LSU Museum of Art store today! www.facebook.com/laurateaguejewelry I have been beefing up my "La Louisiane" collection today and have also put several of these necklaces at the LSU Museum of Art store. I have great fun making these - trying to come up with local French words to include. www.facebook.com/laurateaguejewelry Ironwood market was great and, since then, I also pariticpated in FestForAll in downtown Baton Rouge. The time is flying - having trouble keeping up! the next market i'll be involved in is a little neighborhood market - Art in the Park near my home in Baton Rouge - should be a fun one. The festival International in Lafayette - a BIG festival about an hour from here! always a great party. hope to see you there! |
