Where I live in south Louisiana, you just NEVER wear a turtleneck in the summertime. Not ever. Even if the A.C. is blowing cold right down your neck. You just don't do it.
However, here I am in a black turtleneck right in the middle of the hottest part of the summer. Why, you ask? Very good question. Turns out that silver jewelry just looks great against black. Better than against skin. Better than against almost anything. So, when it was time to take photos of this bracelet, I searched the back of my closet and came up with this black turtleneck, just for the photos. Tough job but somebody had to do it! I was at a craft show last spring and was next to one of my favorite artists and people, Alex Williams of Potsalot Pottery in New Orleans.
I didn't have the right sort of container for my silver stacking rings so I wandered over to Alex's booth and browsed around at his little bowls - found this little piggy bowl and loved it so took it "home" to my booth &, for the rest of the show, my little silver rings lived his this bowl! So cute. That silver link bracelet is available in my online store - click here for details! Click the button below to be the first to see new jewelry designs & for special offers! New white gauzy shirt - perfect for the end of summer AND I got it on a nice sale, too! Win-Win! This is my favorite little leather bag. I bought it a long time ago and really thought I paid too much for it but, you know what?
I use this little bag ALL THE TIME. I am trying to teach myself that it's ok to spend money on myself for things I will LOVE for years and get so much pleasure from. I come from a long line of folks who are very careful with their money but I have decided that life is too short not to enjoy what I do have. Oh, sure, I'm not going to just throw money around - I don't have that kind of money anyway so even if I wanted to, that's not going to happen. But for something I love? For something I can't get out of my head even when I walk away and stay away from the thing for awhile? I'm going to buy it for me. And enjoy it every day of my life! That little dainty silver bracelet is for sale in my online store now - click here to check it out! Want first look at new jewelry designs? Click here to sign up for my email list! This is one of my favorite sterling silver bracelets - it's called "rope chain" but it's really a double rope chain - nice and dense but still with plenty of flexibility. Who would want to wear a stiff silver bracelet? Nobody, that's who.
This bracelet is available in my online store -click here to shop now! I love this sweet little hand painted vase by Louisiana potter, Rocky Broome (www.RockysPots.com) I got a beautiful, functional piece of pottery plus a mini painting!! Win Win!
That big silver bracelet is available in my online shop - go here to see it up close! Remember these little "Viewmaster" toys? You could put those little circle discs in with the tiny slides & see the small scenes in (sort of) 3-D! I think mine was red & I spent lots of hours with it. A magical world before electronics!
Well, I saw this one, with lots of "viewing discs" (I'm not sure what they are actually called....) at a garage sale recently for $15.00 and I didn't buy it. What in the world was I thinking??? Talk about something that would have made me happy everytime I looked at it! So guess what? Now I am looking on Ebay and I am determined to buy one - a red one if at all possible. I NEED this in my life (again). So, into Ebay land I go - wish me luck! The clover chain (or daisy chain) silver bracelet was inspired by the clover chains I used to make when I was a child - the clover chains were happening at about the same time as the Viewmaster! Go here to shop the silver clover chain bracelet in my online store! I just got this painting in the mail yesterday from one of my very favorite Louisiana artists, Lauren J.H. Clark of www.etsy.com/shop/LaurenJHClark. I love the colors, I love the size (just 5" x 7") - I love everything about it! I especially love supporting local artists!

Now & then I come across pottery and a potter who I really love & relate to. Jason Wilson, from Mississippi, is one of those potters. His work is so unusual and beautiful. Love the colors, love the shape, love how it feels in my hand. I want another one!!
The sterling silver stacking ring is available in my online store - you can click here to shop! A painting by one of my favorite painters in Louisiana! When so many Louisiana painters are painting scenes from New Orleans, Lauren (https://www.etsy.com/shop/LaurenJHClark) paints what she knows - the sugar cane fields, homes and churches around her hometown of Lakeland, Louisiana.

Click here to shop the earrings! Nice earring holder, don't you think? This beautiful porcelain vase was made by Rocky Broome of www.rockyspots.com. Most of her pottery is hand painted but I love this white "sea urchin" vase! I love Rocky's work - go check it out when you have a minute!
I like using this vase to hold earrings - every time I reach for the earrings, I enjoy the vase all over again. You might be familiar with one of my favorite collections, the Daisy Chain (AKA Clover Chain) Collection - you can see photos below of the jewelry (or go here to see the bracelet in my online store or here to see the short silver daisy chain earrings online).
This little clover flower was the inspiration for this collection. In some parts of the country, kids made daisy chains or dandelion chains & used them as necklaces, bracelets or crowns but where I grew up, in Arkansas, it was clover chains all day long, every carefree summer day! Earlier this summer the pears got ripe! We have lived in this house for so many years and, except for the first year we lived here, we have never had more than one pear on the tree. Suddenly, this year, we had several dozen pears - he natural world is a mystery!
But. The truth? Neither of us really like pears. Oh, we like to look at them and wonder at the fact that we suddenly have so many pears on our little tree. But eat them? Not so much. So we enjoyed watching the birds have a bird party with pears for the main course. It's been a good summer! Those bracelets are both available in my online store - click here to see the fun, frilly, charm style bracelet and click HERE to see the thin sterling silver bangle bracelets! Wow! These silver earrings are supersized! If you love the original jacks earrings (below), but you prefer larger earrings, you'll love these extra large jacks earrings! Still jacks, still fun ---- just a lot more to love. These earrings are part of a group of new jewelry I am working on - all around the theme of "jacks". If you want to know when the new silver jacks jewelry hits the website, click here to join my email list! Click on the image below to shop the original "Jacks" earrings! By the way, the background for both of these images is an original painting called "Little House with Sunset in Sugarcane Field" by my friend, Lauren Clark. Today is our anniversary - 30+ years ago today, we got married in a quiet ceremony in Bar Harbor, Maine, of all places! We were both transplants to Louisiana (he from Tennessee and me from Arkansas) and decided to get married then decided (on a lark, really) to take a trip to Maine and get married while we were there. Seems kind of crazy looking back on it but it has all worked out for us!
In honor of all sorts of anniversaries and celebrations, I wanted to share these dramatic black and gold earrings. I love freshwater pearls of all sizes and I think these little oval ones set off the gold and black in the earrings perfectly! They are available in my online store, so click here if you want to see details & shop! Click here to sign up for me email list so that you don't miss any new jewelry design announcements! This book, Flat Broke with Two Goats, is an entertaining book - I'm always looking for something new to read and this one came up on the books on the "Big Library" list of books. If you don't know about "Big Library" (and you like to read), check it out - it's a nice concept and the books listed for the program as pretty good, for the most part.
This book starts out kind of sad, in an unfortunate sort of way. Major financial problems are always pretty sad. Anyway, things improve from there for this family and things are poignant and funny and sometimes sad again. Bonus? It's a true story, which I didn't realized until I Googled it after I finished reading it. This silver bracelet is one of my very favorites and I wear it all the time. The fact that is was inspired by the game of "jacks" is an added plus. It just makes me happy every time I look at it! You can click here if you want to shop this bracelet on my online store! I knew I needed to show you my sterling silver jewelry on real people and, since I didn't have family in town (or anywhere nearby), I was stumped as to who I could use.
Then it hit me - I could easily ask my beautiful niece, Marie, to model for me! I asked, she said yes, I sent her the jewelry and here are a couple of the gorgeous photos she took of sterling silver bracelets and bangle bracelets! (I paid her in jewelry, so everybody was happy - win-win!) Both of these silver bracelets are available in my online store - click here to see the silver chain link bracelet pictured below and click here to shop the thin sterling silver bangle bracelets pictured above. Last weekend I was on vacation in Arkansas and one of the most wonderful things we did was find a farm where we could pick our own peaches. We were lucky enough to have a little bit of cooler weather so it was really great and the peaches are so sweet! (We picked 80 pounds of peaches - that's a lot of smoothies and a lot of jam!
Go here to get a closer look at the silver bracelet - inspired by the childhood game of jacks! Click the button below if you need a silver thumb ring of your very own! |
