hammer from long ago. As I hammered, I was imaging the cobbler who originally used this wonderful tool - did he make shoes? did he repair shoes? What was his story?

Although far from finished with my metal explorations, I made these truly unique earrings. ​

My grandfather was a cobbler - at one time, he made shoes for both horses and people and, in his later years, he repaired shoes. I have always wished that I had more of his tools. 

I LOVE garage sales and, on one very lucky day, this fabulous "cobber's hammer" was sitting all by itself on a little table at a garage sale. I saw it and I fell in love. 

Once I got this cherished hammer to my studio, I practiced hammering metal and was amazed at the patterns I was seeing transfer to the metal from this well-used and well-loved
